Why is there a push to close Chicago Public Schools on May 1? According to the Illinois State Board of Education, only 1 in 3 CPS elementary students are proficient in reading and only 1 in 5 are proficient in math. Our kids need more time in the classroom, not less, yet Chicago parents are being asked for their kids to lose another day of school on May 1st for a political Day of Action. Parents and kids rely on schools for learning and consistency. Closing schools will send parents scrambling for babysitters or losing wages to stay home to care for their kids. For some kids, schools are where they get their meals and are the safest place they’ll be that day. As a CPS mom, I have skin in the game and expect my son to be in school where he belongs on May 1st. An old student of Tema Senior High School in the Greater Accra Region has confirmed to me that this is the situation in the school. How would students in situations like this turn out if the government pays their school fees but neglects to provide for their teaching and learning needs? The heads of schools are afraid to complain because they fear victimisation from the government. At the end of the day, the government boasts about the numbers that go through secondary school and credits that to the Free SHS policy. But would you like your son or daughter to go through this? This is a school in the Greater Accra Region. Some rural basic and secondary schools are worse than this.

Enough and more has been discussed on this topic and it's high time TVK Govt breaks away from the pointless DMK policy of not letting Navodaya schools in TN. DMK opposed every Central Govt scheme blindly in their regime and let the people of TN suffer, while other states kept benefitting. Vijay has made his stand clear that he is not going to do such stunt and this is certainly one to reconsider. The equation is simple. Every State and Union Territory (including Pondicherry and including states with Congress in power) in India has Navodaya schools that benefits the students and they are all learning a third language. Every private/CBSE school in TN is teaching Hindi or any other third language to students. But denying this opportunity to the less privileged Govt school kids in TN alone is really sad. If Hindi is the actual reason, then either the state needs to ensure Hindi is not taught in any school in TN. Or ensure other languages other than Hindi is taught in all schools in TN. This scheme is a solid win for the less privileged kids in TN where the Central Govt is literally taking up all the operational and infrastructural cost. Denying this is hypocritical. While in Xihaigu, one of the poorest regions in China, I had the opportunity to attend an eighth-grade English class. I've always been curious about how Chinese rural children see the world and how much they know about it. Language is essential for understanding a country and its culture. Most Chinese students are familiar with Alphonse Daudet's "La Dernière Classe", in which a French teacher teaches his students the final French lesson before the Germans occupy the region and French is banned. In contrast to Daudet's story, Chinese youngsters in villages are now taught other languages to understand the world better and learn from different cultures. Yuanhe Middle School, which I visited, is located in Xiji County. The World Food Programme listed the region as one of the "most unfit places for human settlement" in the 1970s. On November 16, 2020, Xiji became the last county in Xihaigu to be removed from the poverty list; this was a tremendous victory for the region and the country. Most students at Yuanhe Middle School are "left behind" kids whose parents work in cities to make a better life. Taking care of rural children is critical to China's poverty alleviation efforts. The school provides boarding services and free breakfast and lunch to students, who can also video chat with their parents daily. The school provides outdoor hiking, technology and art electives, and foreign language programs to help local youngsters understand the outside world. This is a story of how better education changes the lives of rural Chinese children.

In view of the rising temperatures, all schools in Delhi have been directed to submit a compliance report to the Directorate of Education by 2 May in accordance with the IMD Heat Wave Action guidelines. Every school is being asked to ensure safe drinking water, designated nodal officers and all necessary preventive measures for students. Parents are requested to send children in light cotton clothing, remain connected with class WhatsApp groups and immediately report any concern to the school administration. Like being in a cage: the story of children from the Novopetrivtsi boarding school The first weeks of the full-scale war the children of the Novopetrivtsi boarding school spent in a cold basement. The kids almost did not go outside because of the constant shelling. Once they were almost killed by debris - they managed to run into the storage room in time. The basement was damp and cold. The adults somewhere got small stoves, which they used to warm the #children. Russians occupied the village at the beginning of March. Military invaders quickly found a boarding school and children. They put a guard at the entrance. And they count the children every day. The director of the institution was threatened with a weapon so that she would not give the pupils to their relatives. In July 2022, the occupiers forced 16 children and staff to pack up and leave the boarding school at gunpoint. The children were placed in cars separately with Russian drivers and taken first to Stepanivka in the #Kherson region. Later, they were transported across the #Dnipro to the left bank and then by train to Anapa. There, they stayed for some time in the Pearl of Russia camp. Despite being captured, they managed to keep in touch with their loved ones, who prayed for the children's return to #Ukraine by all means. Children in occupied territories are vulnerable and unprotected from the enemy's cruelty. Orphans are the most vulnerable category because no one can protect them. The Russians try in every way to use them for their criminal purposes and manipulate them. It is easy to kidnap these children, transport them to another territory, make their new documents, give them to a #Russian family for upbringing, force them to study in a Russian school, or become a member of any militarized children's organization. We are happy that we have accomplished another successful mission. During such times, the roads are congested because many schools are breaking off for holidays. Having the service helps to remove a sizable number of cars off the roads. How it works: Students board the train from the Mukono ICD and are transported a long the route, with stops at the different halts. For other routes to be added, the boarding points will be communicated. At each stop, the parents are waiting to pick their children. With us, you don’t have to set aside an entire day just to pick your child from school. The end goal is to deploy the service whenever students are heading out for holidays and during school opening days, along all the routes we have, and those to be added.

Teachers often deny permission to children to drink waters, and students are sometimes also punished for drinking water! But one school has chosen to take a different route! They have created a “water bell” in their school, and at the end of every period, a bell rings reminding all students and teachers to drink water! This has helped the school students reduce the number of times they fall sick, and has helped improve energy levels of students! I highly recommend the government to spread this “Water bell movement” across all schools in India. In fact, even private schools and colleges can introduce this “water bell” concept. At a March 2nd meeting, Supervisor Juli Briskman told the county’s DEI department that she hopes the board will not fund a large resource request (elementary SROs), and if that happens, other budget requests like more DEI positions could be funded. The County Administrator already included funding in the proposed budget to fund school resource officers in elementary schools, something Briskman opposes as do most Democrats on the school board like April Chandler and Anne Donohue. On Thursday at 5:15 pm, the Loudoun County School Board is holding a special meeting and is expected to vote on the Sheriff’s proposal to add school resource officers in all elementary schools. Right now, the Democrat majority on the school board is expected to formally oppose the SRO proposal. We’ll keep you updated. Some believe this is being done now so Democrats on the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, like Briskman, can make the argument to take the SRO funding out of the county’s proposed budget. “Why fund elementary school SROs if the school board doesn’t want them?” Right now, there are school resource officers in all middle and high schools in Loudoun County. The Sheriff says the county needs school resource officers in elementary schools because of how many calls of service there are at elementary schools and he says SRO’s can protect the most vulnerable kids in the county when seconds count. Elementary school shootings have been on the rise over the past ten years. The sheriff’s office also tells me there are hundreds of instances where SROs have had to leave middle schools to respond to threats at elementary schools each year. The sheriff’s office was told by the school admin last year that if they want school resource officers in elementary schools, they should get the funding first, and then LCPS will talk. But now it appears the school board is moving the goal posts. The sheriff’s office was able to get the funding, but now there’s an effort underway by Briskman and some school board members to pull the funding and prevent school resource officers in elementary schools.

Baloch Literacy Campaign The Baloch Literacy Campaign (BLC) is deeply concerned about the Government Primary School Dilbar Matt, Peer Shari Darbar, Dera Bugti, Balochistan. The school was functional until 2000. However, due to the ups and downs of circumstantial situations, it has remained closed since 2000 and currently looks like a ruined building. The students of that area lack access to education and are unable to attend any nearby school because there are no operational schools in the vicinity. The local community strongly demands the restoration of the school's functionality so that they can educate their children. The Baloch Students Action Committee (BSAC ), under its literacy campaign (BLC), urges the concerned authorities to take notice of this issue and ensure the smooth functioning of the school—either in the existing building or in a new one—so that students of the region can easily access education. We also like to remind the concerned authorities that many regions across Balochistan face same like situations, with non-functional or partially functional infrastructure reduced to ruined buildings rather than functional schools. Quebec is tabling a Bill that essentially puts immigrants on notice for expectations and behaviour: "We are a nation, we have a culture...men and women are equal and people coming here must accept that. We see alot of difficulties in some schools, seeing people staying with their own group...we don't want some ghettos." The school issues he is talking about is the Islamits who been taking over some Quebec schools and teaching closer to Sharia Law than actual education system with significant student abuse that's been going on for years. It speaks to the quality of and belief system of the immigrants Canada is getting that we need a Bill that says men and women are equal in 2025 🤦🏼 At least one province is being proactive protecting its culture.
