It hurts when I see old people still working

It doesn’t for me. I saw some elderly people in SG still working and I realized something. Some of them want to keep moving and find purpose and feel valued when they work. It’s not that they have to but they want to. Another example: The Intern (movie)

According to Ben Shapiro, she's still quite able-bodied and should be grateful she can work til death. In other news, Ben is an asshole.

You need to read and learn about Ikigai. You’ll find old people in Japan who are still do what they love even in old age, and they don’t need your simpathy because they love what they are doing.

You never know the background story. As much as I hate to see senior citizens working, we may never know reason behind it! Maybe its money, passion for the craft or just sheer loneliness! I will drown myself into something like this if I am left alone in this world…

What if she does it cause she loves it? The difficulty, the heat, the metal? Like, we assume utopia is everyone's goal, even though that makes little sense.

It depends. If they want to and can, I say go for it. I've known many old people that work keeps them young, gives them purpose and drive etc. It's when they HAVE to that I have an issue. There is no reason a person over 65 should have to work especially if they have already worked a lifetime.

Why? That’s what keeps them alive.

Lots of older people like to work. Mama Scofield is pushing 80, has enough money to sit on her ass all day if she wants to, but works 40 a week. Isolation and being sedentary are bad for the mind and body. She enjoys being around people. She told me she’d flip the fuck out if she had to sit around and play cards with the retards in her condo complex.

While i do get the gist, you should look up background of video before adding caption. This lovley grandma is working despite being retired, becasue she loves her work. Locals love her and adore, also support in any ways it's needed.

This lady doing what she loves with a schedule is likely what is keeping her going. As soon as she retires and stops moving and being motivated she will likely pass away soon after. She finds purpose in this.

She’s Japanese, when you reach “retirement age”in Japan they do the exact oposite of retiring. They embrace the mastering of their craft. Its not odd to see old people still working in Japan. They take a lot of pride in their work.

There's a difference between working because you love it and working because you need to. She's an example of someone who enjoys what she does.

My grandmom is in her 80s. She still works on her farm, though she has help. But she loves it that way. She doesn’t want to move from village to city and prefers to stay in her village.
