False. By "convincing" he meant pressure tactics. Evangelization he said was required for all Catholics. People got confused with Francis because he opposed pressure and manipulation (that he called proselytism) but he supported evangelization. He never said all religions are equal. He did have that one quote about other religions being paths that admittedly was a bit confusing but throughout his ministry he stated that Jesus was the only way and that you could not find Jesus outside the Catholic CHurch.
