Great explainer on the South China sea by legendary Singaporean diplomat and scholar Kishore Mahbubani One fact is particularly interesting, which I think no-one in the West is aware of and which Mahbubani got directly from the mouth of J. Stapleton Roy, former U.S. ambassador to China. There's this mistaken belief that Xi Jinping agreed with Obama to demilitarize the South China Sea and later reneged on that promise. Roy, who was in the meeting, explained to Mahbubani that in fact pretty much the exact opposite happened. When Obama raised the issue of the South China Sea, Xi proposed as a solution that they both agree to demilitarize the South China Sea, where neither China nor the U.S. would have military facilities in the area. Obama's response? They rebuffed China's offer and stepped up U.S. military patrols in the area.

The best way to defend Europe is to help Ukraine defeat Russia. I did not hear this in Munich. - Former US Army Commander in Europe Ben Hodges Ben Hodges: Europeans have got to accept more responsibility for what goes on in Europe. Ukraine is a European country. Europeans need to understand that the best way to defend Europe is to help Ukraine defeat Russia. I did not hear this in Munich. That was a disappointment. I did not hear a clear commitment, "We're going to help Ukraine win, to defeat Russia inside Ukraine," because it's in the interest of Europe. It's not that there's not enough resources, it's just not enough political will. And if they don't do it, this is only going to get worse for Europe. The best thing to do is to make that commitment to help Ukraine wreck Russia's oil and gas infrastructure, stop all of these shadow fleet vessels that are going out to the Baltic Sea and Black Sea, inflict consequences on Russia for their gray zone operations, and give Ukraine the tools that they need to defend themselves. If that happens, then I think we'll see a positive end to this war much sooner. 📹: DW
