Sheikh Saleh Mansour is becoming a leading voice among Syria's Alawites, because he is speaking out against the killings of fellow Alawites. Today he was the mediator in the release of (almost 10) captured HTS soldiers. Previous sheikhs were meek in the face of HTS. But Saleh Mansour is speaking up for the Alawites who are being killed. Alawites had no leaders under Assad because only Assad could raise his head. Sheikh Saleh has been speaking out against the militia members that are occupying liwa 107, a large military base in the village of Zama, east of Jableh in the Alawite Mountains. The base used to contain anti-ship missiles and was bombed by Israel. The new occupants, according to Sheikh Saleh are mostly foreigners, Chechens, Uzbeks, etc. At first they began to harrass the locals, insulting them and humiliating them, as well as stealing their cell phones and money. Sheikh Saleh spoke about this in his first speech on 19 December, which put him in the lime light.

Here, Lina Sinjab claims that: "Most of the Alawite community are supportive of... former President Assad, and they had contributed or been part of the crackdown, the brutal crackdown, on the Syrians’ arrests, torture in prison and killing." Note how she separates "the Alawite community" from "the Syrians", as if they're separate groups. She also declares that "most" of their community is complicit in crimes, as is regular Alawites are responsible for the Assad government. To the extent that Alawites and other minority groups did "support" the government, that's mainly because they were under threat from the sectarian insurgency dominated by foreign-backed groups like Al Qaeda, a reality that is completely whitewashed here.
