@faisalislam AI should terrify everyone. Business have already started pulling millions of jobs, the only way to counter the mass poverty is major increases in welfare spending, which of course our capitalist businesses seemingly hate. It's a catch 22. We have to stop AI, and now!

Every AI system runs on human labor that is deliberately hidden. And here is the problem: AI is far more expensive than humans. But humans are hard to enslave long term. “There’s no empirical evidence of a singularity” There can’t be. The singularity is where the laws of physics break down. Phil Halper is conflating “no empirical evidence” with no evidence, as if they’re the same thing. They aren’t. We can draw rational inferences about things in the world even without empirical evidence. For example, we rationally inferred the existence of dark matter, is there empirical evidence that dark matter exists? No there isn’t. We also rationally infer that other humans have minds, is there empirical evidence that other humans have minds? Absolutely not.

Almost 10% of Israeli businesses that use AI say they're either hiring less humans or cutting jobs because of AI. The Head of IDI's Economic Reform Program Gilad Be'ery explains on Kan Radio English that while, indeed, the phenomenon of AI replacing humans is there, it happening to smaller extent than experts have estimated, as of now. This is, he warns, a moving target, so policymakers should keep an eye on the matter and develop programs that ensure the labor market is prepared for what's to come. Listen to the full interview.
