It is utterly shameful that some have started playing politics even during Zubeen Garg’s last rites. While everyone paid their Shraddhanjali to our #BelovedZubeen Da in the traditional Assamese way, Akhil Gogoi chose a gesture alien to our culture, one that appeared clearly political.

Zubeen was, is, and will always remain my favourite! Today, at Zubeen Kshetra, I paid my tributes to Assam’s eternal heartthrob and reviewed the progress of the development work underway, an effort that will stand as a fitting tribute to his enduring legacy. I have always maintained that there should be no politics in the name of Zubeen. As promised, after the dust of the elections settled, I visited the site today purely as a tribute to someone who, for us, is evergreen - never a political issue, but an emotion that lives in every heart. #BelovedZubeen

“No VIP culture for Zubeen’s Garg last rites” Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in a recent cabinet meeting said, “I believe that as Zubeen has taken eternal rest, we should not create any VIP culture around it. I myself will not go to see him because Zubeen belongs equally to all those who adored him and we will pray for him from afar.” He added, “The people who have come from Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh and other distant places, some by spending their savings, some by selling something to afford the journey, they deserve the first right to see Zubeen. That’s why I have already instructed the Chief Secretary that if any MLA goes, they must stand in the same long queue as everyone else.” He said, “If any kind of special arrangement is made, I will not accept it.
