"bUt wHo iS gOIng to pICk tHe cROps"? Want to eat food that hasn't been endlessly doused in chemicals, but which also isn't super expensive? Think there might be an alternative to allowing millions of illegals into the country to harvest the crops? "Precision Agriculture" is finally here, and can deliver that, driving down the cost of groceries without the old inputs of factory farming Imagine a world where agricultural scale doesn't mean vast reservoirs of chemicals getting constantly dumped over the food supply, but high-tech, precision equipment doing what the chemical inputs used to The coolest example is the weeder that zaps and burns thousands of weeds a minute, up to 80 a second, saving farmers money and obviating RoundUp, or other chemicals like it. The combination of AI, precision machinery, and agricultural advancement can make that happen, the world it could create is a really exciting one What makes it all the more so is that these innovations aren't just cool. They're real leaps forward that will help Americans. They'll lower the cost of groceries, help farmers avoid huge input bills, such as for the herbicides obviated by the laser weeder, and create a thriving domestic manufacturing sector built around the production of this precision machinery, and all the advances that go into creating it. The pairing of technology and manufacturing in a really cool way that we haven't really seen outside of the military-industrial complex for decades. That's finally possible again, and Precision Agriculture looks like it can make it so

Elon Musk: I'll be long dead before we're really a multiplanet species. But at least I'd like to see us make great progress in this direction. “Why do these things? I think this is important for maximizing the probable lifespan of humanity or consciousness. Human civilization could come to an end for external reasons, like a giant meteor, or supervolcanoes, or extreme climate change. Or World War III, or, you know, any one of a number of reasons. But the probable lifespan of civilization and consciousness, as we know it, which we should really view as this very delicate thing, like a small candle in a vast darkness, that is what appears to be the case. We're in this vast darkness of space, and there's this little candle of consciousness that's only really come about after 4.5 billion years. And it could just go out. I think that's powerful, and I think a lot of people will be inspired by that vision. And so the reason you need the million people is because there has to be enough people there to do everything that you need to survive. The critical threshold is, if the ships from Earth stop coming for any reason, does the Mars city die out or not? We have to pass that. People talk about the great filters, the things that perhaps, you know, we talk about the Fermi paradox and where are the aliens, and, well, maybe there is various great filters that the aliens didn't pass, and so they eventually just cease to exist. And one of the great filters is becoming a multiplanet species. So we want to pass that filter. And I'll be long dead before this is a real thing, before it happens. But I'd like to at least see us make great progress in this direction.” Source: TED, April 6, 2022.

He's right. And I don't mean that sarcastically, or cruelly, or unkindly. Men, that is your purpose, perhaps above all others. It is the very definition of masculinity. It is to give, always, more than you receive. It is not fair. It is not just. But it is the truth. Importantly, just like Batman, you are under no requirement to save everyone. You should be VERY discerning in this regard... But think carefully about every man you think highly of. All of them, every single last one, in stark terms produces more than he consumes. That is what it is to *be* a man. "But what if I need help?" Then you should seek it. And you should understand that the cloudy voice in your head telling you it would be better to self destruct is an animalistic thing, slamming its hand down on the dopamine button, pumping your head full of fantasies of glorious self sacrifice because it feels good in a moment when you're suffering most. Get it? That's why you're fantasizing about it. Because it feels good, in your moments of most terrible suffering, to see yourself as a hero. The very embodiment of self sacrificing masculinity. It counteracts the pain. It's self medication, it keeps you going. And so you slam down that fantasy button as things get worse and worse and worse... until it's not enough, until the fantasy could not only never be enough, but in order to survive the fantasy simply must start to translating into action. And thus it feels good again. Because now there's hope. There's a goal. The fantasy of being a self sacrificial hero is finally being backed up by action, evidence. "I will die usefully." And the conclusion of all of this is exactly what you expect it would be. Don't let it be.
