It seems Lazarus has two different versions, with the Japanese one being the most complete. For instance some scenes in the Japanese version are about twice as long in terms of key frames, and there are noticeable differences in compositing choices across various parts of the EP.

While production on all 13 episodes wrapped some time ago, Watanabe mentioned in October that he still wanted to make a few changes. However, Adult Swim hasn’t opted to re-edit the version with the retakes, and is currently airing an earlier version on HBO Max & Adult Swim.

Though the changes in the first episode may seem minor, I think it's worth noting, especially since more significant differences could surface in the upcoming episodes.

So is that why the subtitled version is delayed by a month? It's probably matched up to the cleaned up JP visuals rather than the English version.

Yea I figured something was off. Wanted to watch it on max since I can do that on the couch but I ended up torrenting it for the JP audio

Then they wonder why people prefer to pirate.
