It started well before 1948. Check your history toots. It started under the Ottoman Regime and continued into the British mandate. They sell more than 6% of their harshest land to the Jewish community. They turned it into an oasis, and they wanted it back. In 1948 the the Arab countries surrounding Palestine declared war against the new Jewish state (Israel). They called the Arabs to evacuate so they can exterminate the Jews. Too bad, they lost. This loss is what they call the catastrophe(=Nakba). The war is still going on.
