Utter ignorance displayed here! SANFL currently DO NOT ALLOW Port/Crows to have a development program which is U16-18 teams or Reserve teams to feed into their SANFL/AFL teams. All other SANFL and VFL do. Which is why Port/Crows will leave SANFL for Reserve AFL (VFL) league.

Hird tried to lay the blame on SA talent development but conveniently ignores the fact that the AFL does very little to assist the SANFL and WAFL competitions. It also ignores the reality of the draft and the fact that we have a national competition with 10 teams in one city

what BS, they only have 2 clubs to split the returning SA players vs 10 Vic clubs, so that's 5 to 1 ratio in favour of the SA clubs; the number of Vic origin players vs SA in the AFL is 440 to 110, so proportionally the SA clubs are better off

The under 18 sanfl system is compromised by the private school system. The best kids in each zone don’t play each other. Big problem.

Well when Vic players want to come back to Victoria it's always to the big clubs likes Collingwood, Tigers, Hawks, Cats, blues, so crows and port can go get fucked.

No Ed, the NFL hire professionals to market the game. They hype up their game. They ensure broadcasters promote the game beyond the die-hards. Media is where you grow the game. The AFL fails to grow because the AFL media is a hard watch even for diehards.

It is 100% a failing of the SANFL who control the development of juniors in SA. The sooner the AFL can take control in SA the better

@CalTwomey Like I said on another feed. If crows want players back you need to pay up. Good players are worth 1.5 to 2 million a year. The $900k to 1.2 are gone. Pay up and watch them come back. Zack Bailey at $1.7 would have his bags packed already. Crows not willing to take a risk.

It's not the lack of talent; it's the ability to retain/attract talent There are many South Australians playing in the AFL; many of them drafted from the SANFL It's the packages and career paths post AFL that VIC clubs offer that make it hard to retain/attract talent back to SA
