Julia Davies, "It might sound like wealthy people pay more in tax, that's because they disproportionately have more of the wealth of the UK" Patriotic Millionaires UK "I'm speaking here as a wealthy person, so I would have to pay the proposed 2% wealth tax that we're talking about" "No matter what the lobby groups who don't want to tax wealth will tell us, it is not going to be a problem for wealthy people to pay that" "Who it is a problem for the moment is working people and small-medium sized businesses" "So while we are delaying implementing more measures to fairly tax wealth, we are increasing the strain on working people and small to medium sized businesses" "We have increased national insurance on working people.. We should have applied national insurance to income on wealth. That would have brought in a lot of money and it wouldn't have put our small businesses under strain" "I represent a group called Patriotic Millionaires, we absolutely don't think wealth is a dirty word, suggesting that asking for fair taxation of wealth is saying wealth is something dirty is nonsensical" "Asking for fair taxation of wealth is not punishing anyone. Asking working people to pay more national insurance and income tax, that is punishing people"

YOU are probably paying more in property tax than the owner of this £130,000,000 mansion this year. We need a new wealth tax. One that actually works. We need to REPLACE council tax and stamp duty with a proportional property tax.

Musk just became the worlds first TRILLIONAIRE. Meanwhile, public services are stretched to breaking point. Poverty is rising. Meanwhile, extreme wealth continues to grow. The economy isn't working for ordinary people. A wealth tax could raise billions to invest in our communities, strengthen public services, and build a fairer future. Tax wealth. Fund public services. Tackle inequality. It's time for those with the broadest shoulders to contribute their fair share. #WealthTax #TaxTheRich #PublicServices #WealthInequality

Cutting benefits does not create jobs - it creates poverty. The Labour Party was built to stand with working class people, that has always included the unemployed and disabled. There is no need for a penny in cuts - it's time for a wealth tax, not more austerity!

#BBCQT sum up what's wrong with the UK today Tory: Tim Stanley, doesn't want to pay more tax for public services because "It's my money" Labour: David Lammy wants more public services but asks "Where's the money going to come form to do that" Green: Caroline Lucas explains we can fund everything like Norway and Switzerland do with, "A wealth tax" We either pay for and live in a society that works and functions with proper public services, or we watch society continue to crumble. To add, many wealth tax proposals are for the 17,000 Brits with over £10 million, wealth taxes do not impact the 14 million Brits living in poverty, or the middle classes. I really do not understand why the working class and middle classes object to taxing rich people more 🤷‍♂️

"If we're going to rail against equalization at the federal level, then we can't keep doing the same thing to our municipalities." Last night, Council approved our property tax bylaw, complying with the UCP government's order to issue their largest property tax hike in our city's history. Despite our Council team approving only a 1.2% tax increase for city services like police and fire, Calgarians will see an increase nearly ten times that. **You need to know that nearly half of your property tax bill goes to the province, in an equalization formula described here by the Premier.** The UCP has hiked property taxes by 57% in four years. Their latest 21% increase represents about $339 more per household. Chestermere and Airdrie will pay even more than that. By contrast, Edmonton homeowners will only pay $154 more. Our Council team cares about affordability. We will continue to push for responsible spending while investing in core services like safety and infrastructure. Let's work together for a fair deal for municipalities and deliver transparency for where property tax dollars actually go.

In my State of the State address, I called for a Millionaires' Tax that puts a significant percentage of dollars back in the pockets of Washingtonians. We've reached the end of session, and the Millionaires' Tax has passed. With it, we have the biggest small business tax cut in state history, 460,000 additional working families receiving checks from the Working Families Tax Credit, and free school meals for all Washington kids. We seized the opportunity to make our tax system more fair.

Zack Polanski, "The four wealthiest people in this country have more wealth than 20 million people" "Inequality in our society is absolutely huge" "There will be people who go to sleep tonight who can make more money than any of us can earn in an entire year" "We need to be taxing the super rich" "Not plumbers, not hairdressers, not people trying to get by, but those who have huge wealth" "Why is is always hard choices for working class communities? For people in poverty? For people working but not being paid enough?" "And why are these not tough choices for multimillionaires and billionaires?" "We need to tax wealth and not work" "It is time for a tax on the super rich"

How about it Andy Burnham planning on wealth taxes on the rich or a short three year stay in Downing street? Gary Stevenson, "If we don't get wealth taxes now, I guarantee you, Andy Burnham will fail on the economy" "That means he will fail at the election, and that means it will be Nigel Farage and Reform UK" Krishnan Guru-Murthy, "Describe the wealth tax you want" Gary Stevenson, "It's a tax on wealth, not on income, of 2% on wealth above £10 million" "So if you're worth £11m, you'll pay 2% on that £1m, which is £20,000 a year" "If you're worth £20m, you'll pay 2% on that £10m, which is £200,000 a year" "It would only be paid by the rich" "The idea is that it will stop the trend we are in where the working class gets poorer, the middle class gets poorer, the gov goes bankrupt, and all of that wealth flows into the bank accounts of the richest people in the country" "We have a tax system that is good at taxing working people, it is not taxing the rich at all" "Unless we can find some way to stop living standards from falling, it's going to be Farage, it's going to be Reform UK"

“What is your vision for Britain?” Sharon Graham, the general secretary of Unite, says Labour has failed to back workers – and will be “decimated” in the May elections. If Keir Starmer won’t back the working class or introduce a wealth tax, Graham asks what it is that Labour stands for.
