It was a simple request, that has significant meaning. NDP MPP Sol Mamakwa wanted to bring his mother to Queen's Park, and speak in his Indigenous language - the only one she understands. What happened next, made history in the Ontario Legislature. #onpoli

It should be noted that Government House Leader Paul Calandra was also instrumental in making the change and moved the initial motion to allow any Indigenous language to be spoken in the legislature.

Excellent news. I am dumbfounded that the @fordnation agreed to do the right thing - the first time. Looking forward to hearing indigenous languages spoken in the legislature.

For all the criticism duly heaped on the Ford government, this is something that makes my heart sing. They CAN do something right!

Upon learning more over the years. It blows my mind (and not …at the same time) that indigenous languages are not part of our official languages for this country . Let’s bring it beyond the cerimonal legislature . Put it in schools.

What an amazing story. The fact that permission was needed all while folks do land acknowledgments every day on that building
