It was bad enough that Dick Vitale and Charles Barkley decided to turn a live basketball game into an (ill-informed) podcast. But Charles' lack of understanding on the issue is just off-the-charts. Viewers deserve better. Good for BA to at least try to explain it.

Charles Barkley says the best advice he ever got wasn’t about basketball or money. Charles Barkley: Grant Hill’s mom, rest in peace, gave me the best advice ever. Charles Barkley: We were at the ’96 Olympics, and I said, “Grant just signed the first $100 million contract in NBA history.” Charles Barkley: She said, “Sit your ass down, Charles. I’m going to give you some advice.” Charles Barkley: “Do not start taking care of your family and friends.” Charles Barkley: “Number one, they’re never going to stop, and it’s going to ruin all your relationships.” Charles Barkley: “Number two, no matter what you do for them, the first time you tell them no… they hate you.” Charles Barkley: I said, “What?” Charles Barkley: I had to learn that lesson the hard way. What the hell are King Charles and Buckingham Palace doing. Have they got zero sense of how to handle public relations and what the public mood is. It’s true that they don’t issue an Easter message every single year. But to NOT do it this year, only weeks after issuing a Ramadan message comes across as a deliberate snub and total hypocrisy. Even if Charles is unwell, get William to do it. Simply to refuse to issue a message to the Christian church and its people of which you are the head, after doing one for Islam is guaranteed to cause uproar and at the very least is just plain stupid.

A good quick summary of my approach to writing. If I can't write something I feel great about in 5-10 minutes, I just throw it away and start over. I don't try to massage the bad into the good, I erase the bad to make way for something better to emerge. For me, throwing it away is faster, and the outcome better, than trying to recover a piece of writing that isn't headed where I want it.
