NO MORE FUNDS FOR ILLEGALS—At today’s Lake County Commission meeting I moved to add language to all county grant agreements requiring that any organization seeking grants must comply with federal immigration law. The motion passed 5-0. Now, any organization receiving funds/grants from Lake County MUST ensure that those funds are provided only to American citizens in accordance with 8 U.S.C. § 1621. American dollars should benefit American citizens.

Los Angeles County has used taxpayer funds to purchase the medical debt of 134,820 LA County residents and forgiven it Los Angeles County Supervisor “Starting next week, 134,820 LA county residents will receive one of these in the mail with no strings attached. Inside is a letter telling them that Los Angeles county has eliminated their medical debt completely gone. This is going to be a huge relief to thousands of families. No one should be pushed into poverty just because they got sick or needed medical care. And yet that's exactly what's been happening. This kind of debt often gets bundled and sold to debt collectors for pennies on the dollar who then go after families aggressively for the payment. But we asked ourselves, what if instead of collection agencies buying that debt, Los Angeles county bought that and what if instead of collecting it, we forgave it? And that's exactly what we've done. So keep an eye on your mailbox. These envelopes will come from the county of Los Angeles with the county seal on there and undue medical debt. This will be the last update from the Northern Utah Type 3 Incident Management Team for the #Widemouth2Fire. The NUIMT Incident Commander trainee Lucas Yeamans said it best at tonight's meeting "We were fully supported here. Especially dealing with incidents like this, we empathize with you. We did the best we could to minimize the impact to you and have genuine concern for you. This community is as unique as this fire. The experience we had here isn’t what we experience every fire we go to. Your elected officials, your community leaders, your Sheriff's department, your local fire department, your state and county resources, your federal land management leaders, have all been amazing. It has been incredibly impressive to see how they work together, to see their commitment, and to see their effort. You can see their concern and their dedication. And, on behalf of the NUIMT, we were proud to be a part of that effort. We applaud you for having such a strong community, with such great leaders. We were honored to serve you, and want to say thank you." Aug 3, Fire behavior update: As of this evening the #Widemouth2Fire crews have made great progress holding the fire outside the communities of Kanosh, Meadow, and Fillmore. The western edge of the fire near Kanosh has minimal heat within most of the interior of the fire. Everything from Kanosh to Meadow is holding well. Crews will continue to secure this perimeter to get residents back in as quickly as possible. From Meadow to Fillmore, there is some heat within the line. This area experienced some spotting, but firefighters were able to catch them all thus far. From Chalk Creek Canyon and east, crews were able to construct dozer line and laid retardant line to enhance the efforts, and were able to hold the fire in the canyon. The east side is growing too quickly to go direct. Firefighters spent the day scouting and doing structure protection. Another focus was establishing safety zones and escape routes. But were unable to directly engage because of the pace of the fire. This evening the fire did reach Sevier County in its push eastward. The southwest corner experienced spotting due to northwest winds. Crews were able to pick them up and stop forward progression of the spots. Southwest of Kanosh, firefighters worked diligently to hold the current perimeter. Once the fire hit the ridge, it made a quick run. All evacuations from today remain and no additional ones exist as of now. Follow the Millard County Sheriff's Office page for updates.
