It would’ve been perfect if they had launched this AR experience with the Minecraft movie.

This was at E3 2015, Microsoft showed off Minecraft on HoloLens, letting you play it like a hologram on your table. But it was more of a tech demo than a real product so the Minecraft version never came out.

After work, the thing i want to do the least is walk around to play my games. Nice novelty but I just wanna beer next to me and a controller in my hand with a nice big ass telly.

IIRC this tech got turned into Minecraft Earth, which was unfortunately shut down only like a year after launch

Except this AR experience was largely fake, or "smoke and mirrors", because the FoV virtual camera showed, didn't remotely match the narrow letterbox view you actually ever got using any Hololens. Minecraft on Quest 2/3 could achieve this, but no port from MS to go with movie 🤷‍♂️
