The U.S. has not learned any lessons from Vietnam. Vietnam showed that the U.S.'s highly technologically advanced military has a hard time defeating an asymmetric adversary. Even today, the U.S. continues to try to overwhelm the enemy with technology. Wars are won on the ground.

If the democrats take over the apparatus of Congress, they will defund the Military, therefore the war will definitely be lost and the loss will be in the laps of the democrats. So, if United States abandons the blockade and economic pressure before it has had time to force a strategic settlement, Iran will survive the military and economic campaign and claim a strategic victory. Conversely, if the U.S. maintains the blockade and sanctions long enough for Iran's already severe economic crisis to become a fiscal and political crisis, the eventual outcome could look very different.
