While I can appreciate the old guy's love of feeding wildlife, that is a Nutria and they are an invasive species from South America doing a horrendous amount of damage to US wetlands from the west coast and throughout the southern US. Most states have a kill on sight order for them, and colonies of them are eradicated by state fish and game agents when they are reported.
