Just imagine being this scientifically illiterate, the world must seem so magical and confusing. These are cloud formations around mountain ranges. Winds blow moisture rich clouds into one side of the mountain, they are forced upwards by the mountain, the high pressure system compresses the cloud into denser clouds, higher concentrations of moisture, causing rain to fall on the other side.
