Everything the Texas Tech brass says makes it worse. This has been historically bad crisis management on an institutional scale.

Agreed. It's something completely different that erodes the integrity of the game in a way those other things do not (as horrible as those things are). It's a terrible, false comparison.

Here we go again with the "my addiction should absolve me of any consequences!" Hey Joey, I went on a 5 day crack bender and mugged an old lady for more crack money and got arrested, can you let the judge know I have an addiction and that putting me in jail will cause me mental harm? Thanks!

I know why he didn’t say drinking and driving

Throwing away the school’s credibility for a single, replaceable player is WILD.

Vegas and every online gambling outlet should ban betting on Tech games when he plays.

What in the actual fuck? So you draw the line at murder? This is some bat shit stuff to say there Joey. Morality of the sport does not matter? So why not have teams just bet the under and take knees and get rich? Maybe sit the next few plays/pressers out. #MEPS

I have lost all respect for the leadership at Tech. This is disgusting justification by claiming it isn't as bad as those other very bad things.

What does murder or beating people have to do w/this? Totally irrelevant. Total straw man. Relativism run amok

Unreal… yea, let’s pretend the only thing that should prevent a student athlete from playing is murder or beating someone as if betting on and against your own team should warrant a slap on the wrist WHERE ARE THE LEADERS AT TEXAS TECH THAT UNDERSTAND HOW BIG A DEAL THIS ACTUALLY IS? SAVE COLLEGE ATHLETICS

There is no reasonable defense for a player, who has bet on his own team’s games!! Can we just call it for what it is; a degenerate gambler who went so far as to bet over $90k on sporting events (some of which he was a part of)!! It’s unacceptable, period, end of story

It’s hard to come up with a worse response than this

This kills me because I like Joey a lot! It’s hard for me to understand why he doesn’t see why he thinks it’s appropriate to let Sorsby play. I can only think that his bias and desire to win is clouding his judgement. I’m glad he loves his players but I wonder how much love he’d have for him if he knew Sorsby had this problem before he recruited him

I can go with the transfer portal. I am vocally a supporter of players getting paid. But I can not get behind this. By his logic, essentially anything that isn't murder or "beating someone" is allowed.

Oh wow, my oh me, gee whiz, holy smokes, you have to be kidding me, not that, an ADDICTION? That ends the debate. No more can be said on this matter. Leave both victims (Texas Tech and Brendan Sorsby) alone.

Hey @JoeyMcGuireTTU glad he’s recovering, but that doesn’t excuse what he did. You keeping him on your team is setting a precedent that it’s okay to break the rules and cheat. Great example for the younger generation. Do better. You’re part of the problem.

Hey Joey, your university bought its way to sports respectability. Maybe sit this one out.

Jesus this guy is an idiot! But I’m so glad the rest of the country is seeing what the rest of us have all seen and known about them for a long time. Truly a clown show over there! 🤦🏽‍♂️

I can run a stop sign and a cop pulls me over and I give him the same quote, I’m likely getting a ticket.

Nobody, nobody can defend this. He’s a degenerate gambler who needs to be sidelined and kicked out. Can anyone imagine this guy in the NFL? Who wants this problem.

@Zigmanfreud This comment has zero relevance to this issue with Sorsby. Weak excuse and poor comparison. Talk about trying to crowbar an excuse into the real problem.

That one statement is proof enough that no one associated with that university should have any influence over the future of college athletics. Either they don’t understand the importance of protecting the integrity of the game or they are willing to sacrifice it for their own benefit.

As a society, we haven’t been okay with players gambling on their own teams, that’s why Pete Rose is banned for life and why the NCAA has zero tolerance. Yeah it’s not murder or beating somebody, but you did the one thing that’s absolutely forbidden. You didn’t just gamble. You gambled on your own program. Once that trust is gone, bro can’t be trusted on the field.

Another head scratcher is that TTU is digging their heels in for a one season mercenary QB that has gambled at his last 2 schools & on one of them. And is 13-18 over his career & 12-12 at Cincy. What does that tell 4 Star Will Hammond that has worked his butt off to be QB1 at TTU.

I have a question. If a person has a gambling addiction because they couldn’t stay out of casinos. Would it be wise to make them essentially the vice president of a casino and have him visit and participate in that casino daily? If we truly care about the person. Isn’t this a dangerous situation for his mental & physical wellbeing.

The good ol’ boys down at Texas Tech need to stop talking, immediately! But if they’re gonna talk, I’m HERE for IT! 🤣🤣🤣

Bro did not have a physical or psychological dependence on gambling. He’s just an idiot that got caught and wants to dodge consequences.

If this Sorsby kid sees a single down of playing time, this coach will have done a tremendous disservice to his players, the program, and college football. Joey McGuire is on notice...

If you want sympathy you take responsibility. Acting like gambling on your own team isn't as bad as killing someone isn't helping. Does Tech have no one in PR?
