This was a dumb argument. English as a National language isn’t about protecting the language. It’s about establishing the language as the language of official business in the US.

My British friends would find it ludicrous that Americans think we speak the language of Shakespeare. 🤣 I lived in France for ten years, and my French friends made clear distinctions between speaking English and speaking American.

English is the official language of the United States, by practice.....it doesn't need a law to say it is.
