It's no secret that I dislike FF8 with its Junction System and it's Level Scaling, but seeing all my friends play it recently and enjoying it, makes me want to retry it again, play it to the extreme and hopefully change my mind on the game... wish me luck 😊😊😊

I didn't know you disliked it. I hope you enjoy this time around. Just don't go crazy with junctioning and drawing. It can get tedious if you obsess over them. But then again, it's not really too different from level grinding. The more you put into it, the more powerful you get.

Yeah, 8 and 12 are not my favourite. I have finished both of them a few times already. I finished 12 again about a year ago and still not really interested in it, as I find the story bland and not very lore heavy, however playing tactics and noticing they are linked are giving me new insight into it again. As for 8 I got soft locked twice over 2 difference periods in it, and could only complete it with cheats when I was younger, and its been about 16 years since I last played it and seeing everyone with their playthroughs and all has given me the urge to play it again, but this time I am playing it correctly, so we will see if my mind will be changed this time.. I always give things multiple chances, games, movies, foods as sometimes tastes changes, and that's ok

You almost never need to draw, there are better ways. Think of magic like the equipments of this game. Staying low HP with your offensive party member(s) is a thrilling and rewarding double-edged sword. Always use Draw at least once on a boss fight to see if it has a GF. Triple Triad (the card game) is not just for fun. You probably already know most or all of this, but whatever, this is my spoiler-free recommendation on how to approach FFVIII (which is my favourite of the franchise).

The first time I played it I was so stuck on materia being my favorite. Now junction system is one of my all time rpg mechanics. Once the initial shock wore off and I looked at the system unbiased along with the GF/Card system and how they all work together it became 🔥

Yeah my first playthrough I was level 100 at adel and put all my resources into Rinoa so softlocked myself

Yup FF8 is not your run of the mill grind and level. The more you plan out your file from the beginning the better! I actually like that about it

It's my favorite FF to this day.

I tried last year after replaying OG 7, I remember enjoying it when it 1st launched, but revisiting again… I don’t HATE it but god… it’s just such a drag compared to the other FF games that exist… Squall sucks, Rinoa is 😑, Seifer is a tool, the world didn’t interest me at all

I was like that with 12

It is a fun system; especially if you try and role play a bit more and have characters specializing in certain elements etc

I liked the story (if the confrontation with Ultimecia felt rushed) but yeah the system was really awkward. I do think there should be a “How do you do fellow kids?” Meme with those characters.

I love the junction system but the level scaling was pure bullshit.

Need a remake.

If all else fails. Triple Triad is still the king of side content. I will still speed run 8 to get to Triple Triad content.

I don't think level scaling is a problem. I played on release, and finished the game, had no problems, and I love grinding.

I did the Queen of Cards quest a few years ago on the PS1 and spent a great deal of time manually manipulating the RNG on the original hardware. Never again. But the card game slaps.

I also didn't like the Junction/Draw system. I do really like the soundtrack.

The permanent stat grind is the only pain in the butt otherwise it’s fun

I’m with you on that one FF8 took me awhile to get used to junctions and the card system had some pretty good cards on the ragnoraok though

I loved the junction system. It allowed you to add magic to the attack directly rather than having to cast something. But the option was still there as a sacrificial lamb. It added depth to regular attacks

My favourite game ever. EVER! Play it several times a year, often do challenge runs. Hopefully you enjoy it a little more this time, but I won't send you angry tweets if you don't, lol. We can't all like the same stuff.

I played it as a kid and lost interest around disc 3. In 2018 I decided to revisit but break the game early on with some exploit using Siefer and that honestly made the game enjoyable. Loll

Agreed with Junctioning and Levels. But still great game. 7 & 9 get most my love from that era. But 8s story was still good, GF(summons) were sick, Omega Weapon....😈 Good times to be had!

Level scaling is good in this game actually.

Play the card game. It removes the need to draw.

I love it. Games that let you experiment are more replayable.

Good luck, its my favorite but it does take some time to figure out tge junction system. Once you figure it out you will be unstoppable

I'm not a fan of a lot of FF8's decisions either. But I did come around on some of them after playing the remaster. Have fun!

There is joy to be found in FF8, even if the game is a bumbling disaster

Only issue with junction is you can make unkillable death machines fairly easily, every time you play it

My first FF was 6, loved it all the way, even learn English. Bought a PS1 for FF7. Cried on Aerith death, finished it anyway, Played FF9 but was busy by life. Hated every other FF since then. Will try FF8, not sure why I left it off.

Honestly unless you specifically want to use magic, you'll rarely need it. You just junction whatever element to your weapons and exploit enemy weaknesses that way
