Why? Because mortgage-backed securities already sitting on the Fed's balance sheet are paying down. Instead of letting that money disappear and shrinking the balance sheet, the Fed is rolling the cash straight back into T-bills. At the same time, it's pausing additional "reserve management" purchases until mid-October. Translation: For now, the Fed is only reinvesting existing cash flows - not adding another layer of purchases on top. But here's where it gets interesting. During COVID, the Fed accumulated roughly $2.7 TRILLION in mortgage-backed securities to push borrowing costs lower. Those securities are still sitting on the balance sheet. Rather than aggressively selling them, the Fed is allowing them to mature and redirecting the proceeds into short-term Treasuries. So the market gets: → More demand for short-term Treasury bills → MBS staying on the Fed's balance sheet → Less balance-sheet shrinkage than otherwise → More liquidity remaining inside the financial system And when the Fed buys those bills, it adds demand exactly where the Treasury is issuing heavily. Another BIG WIN in court. Gov. Whitmer and MEDC just caved and agreed to return the $370 million in Democrat slush funds. They tried to shove all this waste, fraud and abuse into slush funds, and I said no way. Our Budget committee took a stand and BLOCKED it. Then the Democrats tried to sneak it out the door illegally, and I sued them to stop that. Now they finally agreed with my demand. That money is coming back to the state and we can find a much better use for it to protect the taxpayers and give them better value. Thank you to the Republicans on the House Appropriations Committee for having the backbone to take a stand and put a stop to this. Their vote to block the work project designation was valid, and the money will be put into the General Fund just as the statute requires. And just like it always should have been. I predicted this on the day we blocked all this wasteful spending back in December ⬇️
