BREAKING: Lincoln-Way East High School students in Chicago just staged a walk out to protest the racism perpetrated by their own students and staff. During a game against Homewood-Flossmoor on Friday, LWE students hurled racial slurs and monkey noises at H-F students. The very next day, a LWE cross country coach made comments about, “running past those monkeys,” which the district called a misunderstanding. We commend the students for knowing that vitriolic racism is not simply a “misunderstanding,” and we stand in solidarity with them against all forms of racism, whether it comes from students, coaches, or any part of this racist, capitalist system.
