Middle infielders: I’m a believer in taking the throw from in-front of the bag on a stolen-base attempt. The main reason why: Catchers aren’t always going to put the ball on the bag. A common miss is arm side, causing the throw to tail towards first base. When you're in-front, you have freedom to move toward a bad throw without the runner sliding underneath or into you. You can catch it, make the tag, and potentially keep a bad throw from getting into center field. If you straddle the bag, your range can become limited once the runner starts sliding in. In order to do this, you must LET THE BALL TRAVEL Don't reach out, catch it early, and then bring your glove back to the runner. You're wasting valuable time. Let the ball travel over the bag and make a quick tag. If he's out → quick tag If he's safe → tag and HOLD IT. Give him a chance to come off the bag. A lot of hitters confuse being late with letting the ball get deep. They’re not the same thing. In this video I show it with a simple example. I toss the ball and reach way out in front of me to catch it. That’s what late looks like. The ball already beat you… now you’re chasing it with your hands. Then I toss another one and catch it slightly behind me. That’s being on time and letting the ball get deep. When you’re late, your body and barrel are reacting after the ball passes your window. You’re forced to reach, cut across it, or roll it over. When you’re on time, you can let the ball travel and still control it. Now the barrel can stay through the zone longer, and you can drive it with authority. Deep ≠ late. Good hitters aren’t reaching for the ball… they’re on time enough to let it come to them. ⚾️ Train with an expert. Not an influencer.

I came across this clip of Carlos Alcaraz doing this simple but effective drill to help with his ball toss when serving It immediately made me think about how these amazing players in ANY sport don't skip the basics I see it everyday with golf, the recreational golfer isn't willing to do the smallest, most basic things in order to help themselves acheive their goals They say they want one thing but their actions don't show they will achieve it Golfers always want to hit driver as hard as they can, they skip the importance of setting up to the ball correctly, they don't like changing their terrible grip because it "feels weird" Yet the best tennis player on the planet is working on his ball toss in order to ensure he can serve the ball to the best of his abilities It's these 1% efforts that can help you achieve exactly what you want. Don't skip them & when a coach asks you to do them, there's a reason we want you to listen and do them. They are important

This took place at the Cincinnati Reds game. A home run ball got wedged just over the wall and the stands. The stands are a good four-five feet up from the wall. So this dad tells his son to lean over and then grabs him by the feet dangling him over the wall to get the ball. 😳 A stadiums employee comes down and grabs the dad by the arm and tells him to stop. 💯 Even the announcer laughs and says “that dude’s gonna’ sacrifice his son.” A couple of things- one, that’s a good way to get kicked out of the park. That dad knows he shouldn’t be doing that. Two, it’s just a baseball. I know it’s a home run ball but it’s worth nothing. Maybe sentimental value to look back and say remember when we got that homerun ball? I get it but it’s not worth it. What if his son slipped out of his hands? And the Beast in the backyard is probably going to chew that ball up anyway. Do you understand the fascination of trying to get these home run balls? Heck, think of the chaos for a foul ball- what’s that all about? It’s a just a foul ball. Why not go buy a MLB baseball in the souvenir shop?

This is a good example of how you can "ruin" a young QB. Cam is so worried about pressure, even when it isn't there he gets worried. No reason he can't hold this and hit the back side dig coming open, but he is so worried about getting the ball out asap he dumps it off.
