Alright guys here we go… I never wanted to make this public, but after attempting to resolve this privately, I feel the need to share my experience. I hit a ~$15–20K Pirate Crew Luffy card in a rip & ship break. I paid nearly $200 for overnight shipping + insurance. What happened next is incredibly disappointing….🧵 The card was shipped with bulk cards pressed against it in a bubble mailer rather than being individually secured in a box. It arrived with a significant crease/damage that materially impacted its value. Fortunately, I was able to document the card and packaging with photos/video. The seller has acknowledged that the damage occurred in transit and directed me toward an insurance claim. However, they have also maintained that their website policy makes them not responsible for cards damaged in transit. My issue isn't that something went wrong during shipping. I understand that shipping carries inherent risk. That's precisely why I paid nearly $200 for expedited shipping/handling and insurance. My issue is the level of protection used for a card worth five figures. I was incredibly excited to receive this card and decide whether to keep it, sell it, or potentially grade it. That decision was taken away from me because the card arrived damaged. What's been most frustrating is not just the financial loss, but the difficulty I've had getting the seller to meaningfully acknowledge the circumstances and work toward a more immediate resolution. I want to be very clear: this is not about attacking anyone personally. I have genuine appreciation for the fact that they pulled the card for me, and I would have preferred to resolve everything privately. But I also believe buyers deserve to know how situations like this are handled when something goes wrong. The release of our NFT cards this time came with various issues. I am truly sorry about this. First, there were last-minute concerns that we might not be able to connect to the payment system for credit card transactions. Then, the service company we were using announced they would be ceasing operations, so we had to patch that issue as well. In addition, trading became disabled for some reason, and some users couldn't even open the card packs. I apologize for these many setbacks. No matter what I say, it will be an excuse, but we, the entire team, are determined to work hard to ensure that this sort of thing never happens again. We know we have to eliminate these kinds of failures. Also, I’ve received criticism from many artists saying, “You’re certainly not the only one doing this! I’m doing it too!” But please don’t misunderstand — what I meant was that among artists of my generation, who have long sold physical works in the contemporary art world, there are hardly any of us left here in this space. Far from disregarding others, I have deep respect for the artists and art zones that have emerged within the world of NFT art. They represent a wonderful realm that we, from the older generation, can hardly access. So I ask for your understanding, and I hope this helps ease some of the anger toward the previous video post as well. We really have received a lot of criticism. We take it very seriously and are committed to making improvements, so please forgive us. Also, moving forward, we’ll continue to post videos featuring the Murakami illustrations introducing the products, but please understand that we are not ignoring or pretending to be unaware of the issues mentioned above. Out now - my interview w/ world's largest in CLO equity (Collateralized Loan Obligations), Thomas Majewski, on: - "Private credit" is assuming some of the CLO world's riskiest loans - "Phone was lighting up" in September as banks rushed to offload credit risk to non-bank credit funds to meet capital requirements (this "regulatory capital relief market" is similar to credit default swap but employs a different instrument, the credit-linked note) - Private credit could be part golden age, part "biggest bubble in world" (I prompted him, not his original words). - CLOs are a "better bank" because there has "never been a run on them", and because "corporate America pays its bills," the senior corporate loans that make up CLOs are very unlike the subprime mortgages that made up CLO's problem cousin, the CDO, the structure that led to 2008. - He is quite clear that, in his *personal* opinion CLO equity offers the best risk/reward compared to other tranches. However, when it comes to private credit and BDCs (business development companies), there's a compelling case for being senior (i.e. lending to BDCs, rather than being an owner/equityholder) - The credit reality is worse than news, at least when it comes to senior loans. This has got to be one of the BEST stories in sports card history, and it happened to me this morning. Warning: this story involved a $35,800 transaction, a German wedding, and Lamine Yamal This morning, I woke up and saw a Lamine Yamal /10 Base Prizms Gold NFT for sale on the #PaniniBlockchain for $35,800. I felt that the price was fair and I purchased at 5am. Seconds later, I get a dm from the anonymous seller on Instagram. “Hey this is Brian”. A German guy, few followers. What I learned next is nothing short of f*cking legendary. I’ll let him tell the story from here, and I’ll accompany the epic tale with photo and video proof. Sit down, and buckle up. “Two days before my wedding, the four of us—my best man, my wife, my cousin, and I—went out and bought a few Panini packs together. Just for fun, we agreed that each of us would keep one pack sealed and save it for the wedding day. The plan was to open them together after the ceremony and see what we got. What made it even more special was that my best man had never opened a trading card pack in his life. It was also my wife's first real experience with the hobby.
