It’s so satisfying when a printing session works, (it often doesn’t 😊), when the background comes out right and the tree plate prints well, without bits of ink in the wrong places, and the ink behaves and doesn’t smother the white marks I’ve carved.

The fun part of experimenting with brushes is that you have to figure out how the ink behaves first. How it spreads. How it flows. Only after that do you start thinking about texture. And honestly both parts are hard in their own way. What I tried today was adding something like a magnetic force into the ink. So while drawing, these unexpected textures start to show up.Most of the strength and density come from layering 2D Perlin noise. It’s actually really fun to play with. A lot of time goes into things no one ever notices. That’s just life :)
