Flatliners (1990) is still a beautiful looking movie. Gothic is quite hard to do well, but this is excellent and full of atmosphere as well as moments of menace. People disagree on if it's a good story, and I think audiences were expecting something more supernatural than what this is (a story of psychological guilt projection), but it has a Brat Pack feel and its pretty sleek. I don't mind that it's not that deep, it's a movie of images and atmosphere and that's fine.

Hostiles is a damn good Christian Bale performance & a quality film from Scott Cooper. I’ve wrestled with Cooper’s films over the last 15 years, but when Cooper gets it right, I think he’s pretty good & he gets it right here. Not only that, the cast is exceptional: Rosamund Pike, Wes Studi, Ben Foster, Bill Camp, Stephen Lang & some guy named Timothée Chalamet.
