Flatliners (1990) is still a beautiful looking movie. Gothic is quite hard to do well, but this is excellent and full of atmosphere as well as moments of menace. People disagree on if it's a good story, and I think audiences were expecting something more supernatural than what this is (a story of psychological guilt projection), but it has a Brat Pack feel and its pretty sleek. I don't mind that it's not that deep, it's a movie of images and atmosphere and that's fine.

Hostiles is a damn good Christian Bale performance & a quality film from Scott Cooper. I’ve wrestled with Cooper’s films over the last 15 years, but when Cooper gets it right, I think he’s pretty good & he gets it right here. Not only that, the cast is exceptional: Rosamund Pike, Wes Studi, Ben Foster, Bill Camp, Stephen Lang & some guy named Timothée Chalamet.

Friends came on a few years later.” “I think NBC was watching my show and went, ‘Hey, this is working pretty well. Why don’t we try the same thing with good looking people?’ And that was a pretty good idea. I think that kind of worked.”
