I have always found migration fascinating. I find it amazing that birds manage to find their way over such huge distances (I am useless with directions so would get lost if I were a bird!). I love spotting migrating birds.

At the Yellow River Estuary, hundreds of thousands of migratory birds lift off in unison, forming a breathtaking “bird wave.” The scene evokes the spirit of the Kunpeng—a legendary creature described by the philosopher Zhuangzi that transforms from a giant fish into a soaring bird, symbolizing freedom and the courage to embark on epic journeys. Every year, more than 800 bird species travel through China. Four of the world’s nine major migratory flyways cross its skies, making the country a crucial crossroads for hundreds of millions of birds that depend on its wetlands for rest and refueling. To safeguard these vital corridors, China has launched comprehensive conservation strategies—using advanced monitoring technologies, strengthening law enforcement to crack down on illegal hunting and trading, and restoring more than 333 hectares of wetlands. In 2025, key migratory bird populations increased by 15% year-on-year. The 2024–2030 Action Plan for Migratory Bird Flyway Protection aims to bring 90% of critical habitats under effective protection by 2030, supporting global biodiversity efforts such as the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Together, these measures help keep migratory birds safe and their long journeys uninterrupted.

🇮🇱 Migratory birds gather along northern Israel lake banks Thousands of cranes and other birds are wintering on the banks of Agamon Lake in the Hula Valley Nature Reserve. The Hula Valley is home to a unique sanctuary for hundreds of millions of birds which migrate from Europe and Asia to Africa and back during the spring and autumn seasons.

Today, we've published the #StateofMed report - our annual report into the workplace experiences of doctors in the UK. The report highlights that after years of worsening job satisfaction and burnout, doctors are increasingly having to take their own steps to protect their wellbeing and patient care. This includes reducing their working hours. We're raising awareness of these findings with employers and healthcare bodies, urging them to act now to support doctors, while longer term solutions are in development.
