“It’s yet another example of the very sharp dividing lines emerging between Andy Burnham and Kemi Badenoch.” Henry Zeffman on the Prime Minister warning that national security ‘can’t come at the expense of social security’ while the Conservative leader says the government has an addiction to spending ‘other people's money’.

@hzeffman The Conservatives significantly cut defence spending during their 14 years in government. Kemi Badenoch, nothing to do with me. #r4today

@hzeffman Kemi 'Nothing to do with me' Badenoch. #r4today

@hzeffman Never heard such a dreadful interview as that conducted by Emma Barnet and kemi. After that rude and bitchy encounter I won't be listening if barrnet is a presenter. So rude continually interrupting kemi. Such an unprofessional woman is barnet

@hzeffman The real sharp dividing line between Kemi Badenoch and Burnham is that Badenoch is a bright and savvy political leader and Burnham just isn't. He's completely of his depth.

Burnham’s “national security can’t come at the expense of social security” is pure 1969: Healey scrapping carriers to keep building houses, while still promising 3.5% on defence by 2035. Kemi’s just pointing out that if you refuse to cut welfare, the only other 1960s option left is a return to the 95% tax rate.

@hzeffman The interview with the UK's leader of the opposition this morning was informative. I now know a lot about Emma Barnet's thinking on how and why taxpayer's money should spent providing housing benefit in expensive areas. This may be private renting. Is she renting out? Kerching!

@hzeffman If Emma Barnett repeatedly makes comments and asks multiple Qs all wrapped up within one supposed Q, of course she is going to be interrupted by the guest. Let the guest finish speaking and follow up with a single Q, not side comments

@hzeffman #Gobalot #BrainlessBadenoch but but Oct 7 Oct7 Netanyahu KNEW and allowed it you muppet Or does she know that Disingenius AGAIN

@hzeffman The comments below confirm that the BBC is left leaning channel for a left leaning audience. Burnham just raised UK government bond debt service costs at PMQs with his unnecessary but revealing comment that he prioritises yet further welfare spending over Defence.

@hzeffman More weapons are destroying our planet. National security is more than bombs

Little point having a roof over your head if it's being bombed to smithereens! I used to work in a bank & if people were short of money they would think it was better to pay all the smaller bills (electric, water, telephone etc) but not their mortgage, no point paying your utility bills if your house is repossessed!

@hzeffman Errr Hello #GobalotBadenoch You havent a clue Gobs but NONE of it makes sense Its noise A willfully ignorant moron spouting crap Again

@hzeffman The media perpetuates the folly of Defence v Welfare. The fall in Defence spending since 1984 outstrips the rise in Welfare spending. The UK is not a global military power. We need to align our Defence to that reality with better procurement & co-operation with European allies

@hzeffman Yeah one was a member of a party that defunded the defence budget for 14 years I assume she wasn’t challenged on that

@hzeffman I'm sure Listeners are grateful for this level of expert political analysis. Apparently there are 'very sharp differences ' between a Labour PM and the Conservative Leader of the Opposition . Nobody could accuse Today of patronising its' audience, could they ?

@hzeffman Settlers? THATS up to the Israeli Govt ? 50% of Israelis support the #Genocide dear Top ministers in the Israeli Govt are setting up the settlements ! So #Gobalot Badenoch is complicit in war crimes? Morally bankrupt

@hzeffman It’s clear what Kemi Badenoch means. It’s clear what Reform means. Labour is very foggy mess about tax and spend.

@hzeffman Burnham is not saying he will not finance defence spending he is saying he won't fund it by cutting spending on social security. Badenoch, as ever, is barking up the wrong tree.

@hzeffman Absolutely. Burnham has outsmarted KemiKaze again! Allowing greedy, cheating Tories to show how hateful & vindictive they are. Labour funding Defence properly but caring for voters too.

@hzeffman Even Badenoch should understand that spending on, so-called, defence can't come at the expense of a secure society. Otherwise, what will we have left to defend?

@hzeffman Errr WHO hollowed out our police srmed forces ? Spent our NHS budget to corrupt cronies in Covid ? TORIES DID Now Badenoch who LIED about going to Stanford at 16 tried to lecture the rest of us Make ord golk poor do ppl like her can like vultured get rich on our backs

@hzeffman Probabaly all agreed to offer two options to save the two party system. Starmer sailed way too close to being a Tory and they morphed into each other and blew it.

@BBCPolitics @hzeffman Congratulations to @Emmabarnett for her interview of @KemiBadenoch which proved that Badenoch falls apart horribly under close scrutiny

@hzeffman @andyburnham didn't talk at length about Badenoch's policy on cutting housing benefit- he made one bitesize remark! And he had no answer as to how to pay for defence! Please report impartially and accurately.

@hzeffman Obviously there are 'sharp dividing lines' between Labour and Conservative...🤷♂️

@hzeffman Yep - Badenoch confirmed with Emma Barnett that she will socially cleanse areas & make ppl move to poor desperate ghettoes in poor towns & cities - where they will risk homelessness, with poor services & support

@hzeffman Where's the car crash interview? @KemiBadenoch @Emmabarnett A pair of stroppy schoolgirls. The conservatives have no chance of regaining power under this woman. Barnett should be reading the weather on Good Morning Britain.

@hzeffman Whose money did the Tories use to create our £3T debt?

@hzeffman Kemi Badenoch: "We spent £400 billion on Covid." The Tories borrowed £500 billion, but hey. #r4today
