England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 were awesome in this first group stage,especially beating the French in the first game,who’d get to the Semi final.I just don’t know why it didn’t happen in the second group stage(I never agreed with this format)against West Germany and Spain.

On the back of this goal, people bought a Trevor Francis tracksuit from a Mush in Shepherds Bush!

A great England squad who had a real chance i believe but as other have said the stupid 2nd Phase format was a weird one .I must add that Kit was just the best & I did have it 😁

The England team of 1982 imho is massively underrated, up there with the teams of Euro 96 & France 98. Swept through the group stage defeating France 3-1 as well as the Czechs only to narrowly go out undefeated in the quarter finals after drawing with Spain.

I was there, somewhere behind that goal in Bilbao.

The old Ted Rogers group stage….3-2-1…unfortunately the slightly conservative approach employed by Greenwood and Howe in the second stage (as well as KK’s missed header) contributed to an early exit….

The 'international phone' audio of the commentary was all part of it, and is so evocative even now.

The England run from that wc-3(v France) 2(v Czechs) 1(v Kuwait), 0(v Spain/Germany). Great team though, just ran out of steam..

Imagine only beating Kuwait 1-0. I remember in this tournament Paul Mariner reckons it was so hot he lost a stone in weight during one game.
