I've always loved how Spider-Verse brought comic art to life on screen. It inspired me to take on the challenge of replicating that style in UE My favorite effect is how movement is often conveyed as strokes and smearing instead of motion-blur #UnrealEngine #TechArt #StylizedArt

To achieve it, I used a single Niagara actor to read the screen-space velocity directly from the GBuffer and apply that to a render target by using a Grid2D interface to loop through each screen pixel. The rest is mapping, manipulating and masking that in the material :) #Shaders

Compared to reading SceneTexture:Velocity directly in the post-process shader, this approach gives me way more flexibility and allows me to accumulate or modify that buffer over time in Niagara, whereas SceneTexture only reads the current buffer value.

I wasn’t expecting this to blow up!😄 People have been asking so just to clarify: this is a WIP of something we’re cooking at Redhill Games. Huge shout-out to @Leso_03 for the character, art direction and all the valuable feedback and Lauri Salo for the animation. More to come

I will be working on more in-depth breakdowns in the near future, so stay tuned! :)

This is so unbelievably cool!!! I've felt the same with bringing the environment style to a game as well. So cool to see it done with a character!

thank you!!!! yeah it took me a while to get to this result, especially figuring out how to make it render fine (cuz subsamples messes the velocity vectors up)
