@JonAshworth @UKLabour @BBCPolitics It's not going to be hard, dave, it's a.bit like weddings, you can hire a car for £100 but when you want the same car for a wedding its £250. I can buy a pen for 10p but my dad who's a Dr has to buy the pen from an approved pen supplier for £1... absolute madness.

Sensible procurement is down to the people writing the cheques giving a shit about the budget and preserving it as much as possible. I worked at a University once and it's fair to say that the woman in charge of authorising the computer purchase orders saved a crap load of money by telling people requesting £1500 laptops that one half the price would do the job they need just as well. Isn't just the odd occasion either... it was at the time several times a week and that's just one example. This was some time ago but I wonder how often people simply accept the price of things and authorise spending to just get the job done.

@JonAshworth @UKLabour @BBCPolitics The #NHS needs to make a concerted effort to collect the backlog of money owed by other countries for treating their citizens! They're quick enough to take it back from us, @FishwickDavid! This would make a HUGE difference to the #NHS's finances!
