This law which requires gates to be 70% more see thru was passed when most council members weren’t old enough to drink and is one of hundreds of unfunded housing mandates that go into effect years after the council members who passed them have left office. These local laws are a huge reason why housing in the city is so expensive. Thanks to CBS New York for highlighting.

🏠 Housing déjà vu! Nothing new in the Fianna Fáil-Fine Gael repackaged housing plan. Nothing to make housing affordable, get rents under control or ramp-up delivery of council homes needed. A generation will remain locked-out of homeownership. Another housing plan for the property funds, corporate landlords and big developers but not for you. We won’t stop fighting for a new direction that makes housing affordable for workers and families.

€1.4 Billion capital programme, €884 Million for the housing department, €259 Million for the construction of 3,000 social housing units. Not 1 euro to provide the information showing the demographic makeup of Fingal's social housing list. "Not a justifiable use of council resources" we're told. Fingal County Council is fully aware that the percentage of foreign nationals on the local authorities housing list has skyrocketed, they are guarding it like the holy grail.

This week, opposition councillors blocked a decision that would've unlocked 4,100+ housing units for Vancouverites while creating a new non-tax revenue source that could have gone towards funding city services and critical infrastructure. To say their decision was shortsighted and irresponsible would be an understatement. We won't lose sight of the important goals here. Our focus is, and will always be, on delivering housing, affordability, and fiscal responsibility for the people of Vancouver.
