Israel has the highest percentage of vegans per capita in the world, with an estimated 5% of the population following a vegan diet. And they don’t feel the need to constantly tell you about it. Professor Ruth Wisse always famously said you should never talk to people about Israel without a map. And that's because if you just look at it in the prism that the Palestinians and their supporters want you to look at it through, you see an army with F-35 jets and tanks, and you see the Palestinians in Gaza without those things, and you say, "Okay, one is the more powerful, the other is the underdog. We'll root for the underdog." That's a common theme in Western society. But when you look at a map, you can see the reality: Israel is a teeny, tiny country surrounded not just by some of the largest countries in the world—Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, Iraq—huge land masses filled with hundreds of millions of people, but also by some of the wealthiest countries in the world, with hundreds of billions, and sometimes trillions, of dollars in oil and natural gas resources that Israel does not possess. So you have some of the largest countries in the world, some of the most populous countries in the world, and hundreds of millions of Muslim Arabs, many of whom have been raised from childhood to hate the Jewish state and to see its very existence as a deep wound in the substructure of their souls—one that must be corrected if they are to fulfill their mission on this earth—all arrayed against the one tiny Jewish state in the world. When you see it in that prism, I think the lens is very different.

The question we need to ask ourselves isn’t whether the war continues or whether there’s an agreement. In my opinion, if we look a little further ahead than, say, a day or two, the question is: Will this war end with an agreement or a unilateral ceasefire? It must be said that there is a very interesting development behind the scenes, which is that Hezbollah is pleading with the Iranians that any agreement or ceasefire—even a unilateral one, which is, of course, just a phrase, as there is always some sort of coordination behind the scenes—will also include an end to Israeli fire on Hezbollah. That is what Hezbollah is telling Iran. Israel, on the other hand, is telling the United States that there is no chance of that happening—it will not happen—because Israel’s strategic goal in 2024 was to sever the links between the Gaza and Lebanon fronts, and it succeeded in doing so, and its strategic goal in the Lebanon sector in 2026 is to sever the Tehran and Beirut sectors. To the extent that Israel does this—separating the octopus from its tentacles, or the lizard from its tail, whichever animal metaphor one prefers—it is a significant success on the path to the goal of simply strangling Hezbollah, and therefore this is a very significant point of contention.

WATCH: Speaking in Qatar at the Doha Forum today, US Ambassador to Turkey Ambassador Tom Barrack Tom Barrack suggested that Israel isn’t a Democracy, and should instead aspire to have a monarchy like Islamic countries because monarchy is the best form of government. “Israel can claim it’s a democracy, but in this region, what’s worked the best, whether you like it or you don’t like it, is a benevolent monarchy.” This is very inappropriate commentary from a US Ambassador to be making. Is he saying a monarchy is better than a Democracy or Constitutional Republic? Israel is a Democracy. Ambassador Barrack, like some other admin officials, has been infected with the Arab money virus that clouds judgement.

I explain why the accusation that Israel is committing "genocide" is blood libel. Me: The application of the word genocide to refer to tens of thousands of war deaths is, I mean, I think it is a kind of blood libel. It's trying to import the moral opprobrium that we associate with genocide to a designated enemy, in this case, Israel. I think because I alluded to my side bias, the sides in this case being the sides that a lot of hard left critical theory has defined, namely white oppressors against everyone else's victims. Moynihan: It's pretty strong to say this is like a blood libel. Me: Well, it is a blood libel in the sense that it is an accusation of deliberate murder, ill-founded in that the, and one could disagree with Israel's campaign against Gaza, one could say that this is not justifiable, it's not a just war. It's still different from deliberately murdering as many people as possible, as in, and we know there have been genocides. I think it really is a terrible blood libel, and it's a sign of how people's moralizing in the service of demonizing and dichotomizing, dividing the world into good and evil can just flatten their ability to analyze and to think clearly.
