i've experimented with a fan out pattern from plan mode to parallel agent. spend a lot of time upfront refining the plan, then hand off to background 1. generate plan 2. ask cursor to break down plan to isolated, independent tasks 3. spawn background agents using MCP server

i've created the unofficial cursor mcp you can play around with here

It would be great if cursor can create parallel agents but in new tabs

I like to see next.js -> bun + hono migrations 👀

I’ve used the planning features for the first time yesterday. Such a productivity unlock! Amazing work. I plan for 15min, hit build and then go on to read docs online while Cursor delivers the feature. Has worked this way multiple times now. Pushing it to more complex features.

glad to hear that!

Oh that would be sick to integrate with taskmaster! We break down your tasks, then run a complexity report on each task to analyze complexity, then break it down into subtasks based on complexity. Then you can easily delegate everything to background agents, I love that!

Crazy that the algo brought me here. I was literally just going to suggest: - Complete plan mode in cursor - Execute plan mode via a background agent

hahah nice

That would be awesome if its built into Cursor

Do they work on same work tree or spin their own work stree for each ?

obviously, that’s a solid orchestration strategy front-load the planning to minimize coordination overhead, then let parallel agents execute independently.

What is this app - not cursor or?

cursor!

Weird mine looks nothing like it - did you launch a new mode or smt?

yes, plan mode!

Can this integrate into git workspaces? That way you never have to worry about collisions

Are these agents each generating a separate worktree to induce SoC?

Still need real feedback from the MCP agents, (like roo’s orchestrate) how do you solve this?

I did exactly the same thing with specific agents spawning cursor agents in headless mode. Works great

This is my ideal workflow… but I always get excited and I’m like bam, bam, bam and need to use plan mode more. That’s definitely a thing I would love to make… smoother I guess? I just spend so much time in agent I forget to switch out

sick, what cursor version and MCP config r u running? will be down to test a PR flow!

Parallel agents without a clean task graph just create a mess! But with a refined plan, it’s basically distributed cognition.

the only part I disagree about is having to spawn bg agents. shouldn't it be possible to spawn local bg agents?

Profilbild von Cabbly

When executing the plan, should the “todo” be getting checked by the agent? As in this task is done?

I like this a lot. I add a quality gate to score the plan before spawning agents

are you able to have background agents perform plan-mode? (multiple agents planning first at the same time)

Profilbild von eric zakariasson

not yet, but would be interesting to auto build after its done planning

do you also intend to integrate triggering bg agents natively from agent plans? Would be huge.

, this looks great! Can't wait for it to become an official feature 😎 Since you've been working on bringing Planning mode as a standard feature in Cursor, I was reflecting my thoughts a bit about how I'd see the next development empowering this flow - your thoughts on this?

Nice approach! Investing time upfront to refine the plan really pays off when tasks are executed in parallel.

Awesome plan I'd love to have the background agents work locally ie local chats with the git worktress

i would appreciate a token consumption comparison from a sequential execution. Is performing better?

I can safely switch to auto to carry out my plan correct? Or is there still a noticeable difference in output if you switch away from 4.5 to execute the plan?

Refine the plan, break it into independent tasks, and let background agents run via MCP server, scales orchestration without friction.
