Gas in Hawaii is cheaper than California “I am paying less for gasoline on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, thousands of miles away from any oil wells, and I am paying less than I would for gasoline in California” $1.15 of every gallon of gas in California is tax. “So out of the $4 - $5 dollars a gallon we're paying for gas, $1.15 of it is just tax.
