i've made some significant improvements to the clean4x algorithm since I last showed it. i'd like to share the new version, cleanEdge: i've made a tool for it too! drop your sprites in and get some nice rotated or upscaled versions :)

here's a comparison with the old version, i think the results are really nice more details on my blog post: source code: both versions are open-source MIT licensed, feel free to use them. and if you do, i'd love to see! :)

Is there any chance this could be turned into a plugin for Aseprite? This is amazing, Torcado! I'm blown away.

thanks stepford :) it probably could, yeah! i was considering making one for the first version, and there was some discussion with @davidcapello about the possibility of integrating it into aseprite directly, which would be awesome

This is cool as hell Could you apply this clean edge technique to a snes mode 7 sort of thing with a big flat map?

that's a really cool idea I never thought of, and in fact someone had the same idea and made a proof of concept!

Really impressive work torc!

thanks dwarf, means a lot! :)

got quite a flashback... iirc, in amiga days i used to rotate game sprites in ADpro for later polish because the rotation algo was better than native Deluxe Paint nearest neighbour.

Some testing with aseprite. (with rotsprite I got different results by manually rotating to 30 and typing 30. No idea why.)

ooh, great comparison! (im not sure why that would be the case, either)
