"Playing big is one of the last things my mom said to me, and something I hold very dear in my life." Wyndham Clark's mom Lise was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2012 and passed away a year later. Clark took the loss hard. Then a college golfer at Oklahoma State, he admitted storming off the course at times in anger and starting to drive as fast as he could, unsure of where he was going. Clark has battled that anger at times throughout his golf career, and the 2023 U.S. Open champion faced another climb after a rough 2025 season where he notched just two top-10 finishes and placed No. 56 on the FedExCup. But through committed work with mental coach Julie Elion, he has turned a corner in 2026, and he arrived at Shinnecock Hills for the U.S. Open at 18th on the FedExCup with a win at last month's THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson. Clark battled throughout the week on Long Island and emerged with a one-shot victory over Sam Burns, becoming the third player to win a U.S. Open in both California and New York (joining Billy Casper and Tiger Woods). "I feel like my purpose here on earth is not to be a great golfer, but to use my platform to hopefully help inspire people," Clark said recently. It hasn't always been easy, but Clark is now his national champion for a second time, and he'll continue to share his battle with others.

New York native James Nicholas hit Thursday's opening tee shot at the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, but it was far from ceremonial. Nicholas took the early lead with two birdies in his first six holes, and he steadied the ship after a missed 1-foot bogey putt at the seventh hole to sign for a 1-over 71, just three strokes back of early leader Sam Stevens. Nicholas competed on the Korn Ferry Tour last week in Amarillo, Texas, before an adventurous trip to Long Island that included a 4-hour evening drive from Amarillo to Albuquerque. Nicholas, who played collegiate football at Yale before turning his full-time attention to golf, was greeted by numerous fans and family members after signing his card Thursday. One fan who wasn't on-site but followed along: former New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath, whose Jets team physician was Nicholas' grandpa. The elder Nicholas performed four knee operations that prolonged Namath's career. After a strong start at Shinnecock, Nicholas could have a prolonged stay at the U.S. Open as well.

Bob MacIntyre shot weekend rounds of 65 and 69 with 15 birdies to finish solo 4th at The Players Championship. It’s his best finish in the event and his best of the season so far. He said after: “No, it was stressful. I was actually struggling to eat early in the back nine. Yeah, it's what I want to do. It's where I want to compete. Obviously last year was a big kind of wake-up call for me in order to know that I can really compete at the top end of world golf. Sure, he rapped about the streets and the struggles that came with them, but that was more about telling the stories of the people around him than living that life himself. He had the smarts and the charisma to pull people in, whether it was on stage, on screen, or in his music. He trained at the Baltimore School for the Arts, where he honed his craft, showing he was born to entertain. The "gangster" image? That was more about the industry and the media pushing a narrative than who Tupac really was at heart. Tupac was an artist first, using his voice and talent to speak for the people, share their pain, and make you feel something. He wasn’t about the gangster life—he was about the art and the message.

Justin Thomas is playing the Charles Schwab Challenge this week for the first time in 4 years. Ahead of the event, he said he builds his schedule around what best prepares him for the majors and it may change year to year: “Everybody's different. I would say the most, the first and foremost, most important thing that a lot of the top guys, a lot of, anybody that's in the majors, you're going to at least I would think, is what's going to prepare me the best for the major. So like I've had success in majors when I play the week before. “But playing San Antonio the week before the Masters for me doesn't feel like that's getting me prepared as much as possible for the Masters. Therefore, I don't play San Antonio. I had a year where the PGA, when it was at Southern Hills I wanted to play the week before Byron Nelson, it's easy travel, and I played the week before. So it's very situational of when you play, don't play in that regard. “But I mean I really, really, really try with all my might to not do four in a row, four in a row is like I'm not fun to be around. It's very taxing. So I try to cap it at three. “And, yeah, there's a lot of great tournaments, we're very fortunate to have to miss some great events, but you have to at some point. Now after rounds of 70 and 71 he is currently inside the projected cut line. After the round, he explained his love of golf: “I grew up playing it as a kid. Less than two years later, this same house that Trump had bought for $40 million was sold for $95 million—and it was in fact sold to Mr. Rybolovlev. This is all a red flag of money laundering. And what Epstein did—and he was furious about losing this house—I mean, there’s something about these guys, these men, that nothing rouses them so much as a real estate betrayal. Epstein, after this—the sale of this house, after Trump went around his back, got this house—Epstein began to threaten with lawsuits, with going to the press and saying that Trump was a frontman for a money laundering deal. Trump panics at this point, and Epstein believed—that it was Trump who went to the police and, as Epstein said, dropped the dime on him. That is to say, informed the police of what was going on. And an investigation began, and all of Epstein’s legal problems for the next 15 years began to unfold.
