Well that SUCKS BIG TIME. I hope the trees can be utilized for something good. Lemons make lemonade.

Replace them with broad-leaved, deciduous trees

I know people in that area were out of power for weeks. The gas stations didn’t have gas because all of the portable generators and cell phone towers were snapped, too. It’s been a hardship for them with years of cleanup.

I went through an ice storm like this in 2000; the trees popped for about 16 hours. It was like living in a war zone, you didn't know what was going to break when and where it would fall.
