only looking at the $ for % is short term thinking. the real benefit is the connections. same reason parents fork out cash to send their kids to ivory leagues. one introduction from YC boys could skyrocket your valuation and speed up progress. also 7% for 125k is pretty good

Roman Lakhnyuk 的头像

i don’t disagree but wanted to spark discussion I just don’t think YC makes sense for b2c SaaS they all end up doing TikTok videos as their last resort after failure lol

So true, and very fair analysis. If you truly have a good idea and are somewhat able to communicate that idea to the market it should work regardless of your attended yc or not. Plus like you said for $100 a month subscription you get access to the best ai's in the world who can create, build and market your product!

it’s funny to see basic b2c apps get funded by YC and then they put their money into the same place vibe coders put their money. B2B and hardware is different

Not every idea can be built on an 100$, i guess it's easier said than done. Not saying you can't build on your own..

I’m referring to b2c products (should’ve been more specific)

i used to think this way. yes, you can. but there's massive uplift to having the network and peers that in YC. and 7% for $125,000 is really pretty awesome for a seed round

People are going to hate, but there's a lot of truth here. I started writing a YC application a couple months ago and then stopped when I considered the actual ROI. YC makes sense if you're a bright young kid that NEEDS coaching and direction, but 7% for 125k is obscene for many

what? wasn't it $500k before? and even that amount is small for 7% of a potential billion dollar company

Roman Lakhnyuk 的头像
Roman Lakhnyuk10 天前

I think you get $125K at the start and then more

Roman Lakhnyuk 的头像
Roman Lakhnyuk10 天前

I overgeneralized. i have yc friends and they are not losers. I have a lot of respect for many yc founders. I made this video because I’ve seen bunch of recent YC founders build basic b2c Saas, get no traction, and do Tiktok as the last resort. I def used rage bate. I just wanted to inspire discussion but I half assed this video. Should’ve gone into more detail. If you want to build a b2c Saas, you don’t need YC. You dont need much money. You just need an AI subscription + pump out content and you’ll make well over $125K with 100% equity ownership. This playbook worked for me and I’ve made well over $125K

Only 40% reach profitability. Only 10% of startups survive. Only 3.3% reach $ 1 million. Only 1% reach $ 1 billion. So I'd rather be a loser than dead.

how can you use social media to build the company?

Roman Lakhnyuk 的头像
Roman Lakhnyuk10 天前

Short form video and meta ads are really effective for marketing SaaS

AT8 的头像

Should I first post and get organic reach before using meta ads or just go with ads first day?

Bruh, do you really think it's just about the $125k? They have really good connections with investors, and it's really hard to get investment without any of those YC, a16z, etc.

Roman Lakhnyuk 的头像
Roman Lakhnyuk10 天前

It’s definitely more than that. I just think for b2c SaaS it’s not worth it in 2026

YC is an accelerator, it has its good and bad sides. There are YC companies making $1m a year already when they get in. I wouldn’t call then losers, it’s just a different approach. Bootstraping and keeping more ownership is better, but these are not mutually exclusive scenarios.
