Once again, just 30 minutes of rain has brought the city to a standstill. This is the condition of Bannerghatta Road on August 28. My home’s greywater drains into the estate’s common drainage, which eventually flows into a nearby river. Anticipating that the drainage could harbor all sorts of crawlies, we installed an in line non return valve. This ensures one way flow of greywater out of the house and prevents anything from the drainage from entering, keeping snakes, rodents, and roaches out of the plumbing. The system is a first in a layered defence we installed to make the house roaches, rats and crawlies proof. One day I will share more.

We continue to struggle with flooding in the city because whenever it rains, our own people use the running water as their trash car to take their garbage. They dump it in the drainage systems which later gets blocked and boom casing floods. We need to make sure we raise children who value the environment enough to know that this activity here affects us all…..

When it rains, many urban dwellers release their waste into runoff water (especially in plastic bags). Much of it ends up blocking the already overwhelmed channels. Trying to handle the floods today, KCCA people could be seen mainly struggling with blockages by waste.

There are moments when silence becomes unbearable in the face of injustice. Being separated from my own child, watching a sacred bond be broken, and living under the weight of narratives that do not reflect the truth is a pain no mother should ever have to endure. But the truth does not disappear simply because it has been hidden. It remains, waiting to be seen, heard, and acknowledged. Today, more than ever, I call for justice to do its job. Not out of revenge, not out of pride, but for a child’s right to know the truth and for a mother’s right not to be judged by distortions, omissions, or false narratives. Time is passing, and every day lost is a day that can never be returned to a mother and her child. That is why this matter is urgent. Justice delayed has real human consequences. Every moment that the truth remains buried deepens a wound that should never have existed. I will continue to fight through lawful means, with dignity and determination, because facts matter, truth matters, and the bond between a mother and her child matters. The truth must be revealed. Both Vasai-Virar and its surrounding river catchments witnessed very heavy to extremely heavy rains. However, the widespread flooding wasn't caused by rainfall over Vasai-Virar alone, it was the result of multiple factors occurring simultaneously, with enormous upstream river discharge, tidal locking and urban drainage systems struggling to cope with such unprecedented volumes of water. The Ulhas River, originating near Lonavala, received extraordinary inflows after its upper catchment recorded around 1569 mm of rainfall in just 3 days. Torrential rain across the Ulhas Valley, Pune Ghats and Thane interiors sent enormous volumes of water into Vasai Creek.🌊🏞 At the same time, intense rainfall over the Nashik Ghats ⛰️, Igatpuri, Trimbakeshwar, Shahapur and Palghar swelled the Vaitarna River, which drains into the sea just north of Virar. The Tungareshwar ranges ⛰️ also received torrential rain, with numerous streams and nallas adding further runoff into the Vasai-Virar drainage network. Meanwhile, Vasai, Virar and Nalasopara themselves were experiencing torrential rainfall of about 600-700mm in last 3 days, generating massive local runoff. However, with rainfall expected to gradually reduce from now, river levels should slowly begin to recede as the excess water drains into the sea. Earlier today, we received a report that a woman identified as Mrs. McCarthy, of No. 56 Adaranijo Street, Pedro, Shomolu, allegedly encouraged her child to dispose of refuse into a covered drainage channel. Following the report, our enforcement officers promptly carried out an investigation, which led to her arrest for violating the State’s environmental laws. We expect every resident to act responsibly and to educate their children on the importance of protecting public infrastructure, particularly drainage systems. Encouraging acts that contribute to blocked drains and environmental degradation is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. A clean, safe, and flood-resilient environment is a shared responsibility. We urge all residents to dispose of waste properly and support the collective effort to keep Lagos clean. #ZeroToleranceLagos

I’ve come to realize that many of these so-called “LawTubers” are actors. They’re playing a role, and YouTube is their stage. They are not there to explain the law—they’re there to entertain an audience that rewards them with Super Chats, memberships, and donations. So they give their viewers exactly what they want to hear, even if that means misrepresenting the law, making false statements and inaccurate legal claims, defending the indefensible, or excusing and even encouraging the harassment and intimidation of witnesses. The damage this does is enormous. It destroys public trust in the justice system, distorts how people understand the courts, and misleads viewers about the rights of victims, witnesses, and defendants alike. When lawyers stop acting like lawyers and start acting like performers, the justice system becomes just another form of entertainment. This can’t be the future.

Many people don’t know this, but before construction of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway began, a new Makoko-like settlement had already started forming along that corridor. The highway construction cleared that entire stretch, opening it up to what is now a beachfront. Some of the people still left are the ones seen around the coastal highway at night. If enforcement is not sustained, there’s a real risk of regrouping and the emergence of another informal settlement. The entire stretch now protected by shoreline works behind Orchid Road was once their settlement, as shown in the first video.
