Not saying I 100% agree, but this isn't that dumb, we already have a legal precedent (Section 1259) that deals with realizing current gains from future sales. In the same vain, loans could be taxable as well then credited against future sales.

Yeah he is presumably smart enough to know / see the flaw in his argument and ignore it for the lolz and his audience. Elon lives at the edge of insanity, his bet is hugely risky and he could lose a lot if margin called etc - exactly the argument against this kind of taxation. We shouldn’t force people into risky situations or forced sales of assets. If some subset want to live insanely, good on them, but we don’t want a society pushed in that direction.

All we need to do to fix this issue is limit loans taken out on unrealized gains as collateral to like $10m.

He make the case that "unrealized gains" is not entirely unrealized because of how it is "realized" in collateral for loans etc. No idea why you think this is especially stupid.. 🤔
