I’ve shared this video before, but today it holds extra special significance. Ten years ago today, we began shipping Smart Doll from our home in Meguro, Tokyo - the birthplace of Smart Doll. Reflecting on the past decade, there’s so much I want to share about our journey, the... milestones we’ve achieved, and the valuable lessons learned from our failures. It’s challenging to condense all these experiences into a single post, so I’ll save some stories for a rainy day ;-) Our vision has evolved significantly, particularly in our commitment to representing those traditionally overlooked in the doll market. We’ve focused on creating dolls with darker skin tones, plus-sized body shapes, and diverse skin characteristics and medical conditions, while striving to make these products readily available worldwide. It’s becoming increasingly clear that relentless pursuit of sales growth does not equate to happiness. Because of this realization, our approach at Smart Doll may not align with the mass market, and we’ve never aimed to dominate the industry solely for the sake of increasing sales. We believe that time is our most valuable asset, not money, and we uphold this philosophy across our entire team. We strive to ensure that our work environment prioritizes the well-being and life balance of every team member, fostering a culture where everyone can thrive, not just survive. Moving forward, we remain committed to creating products that represent those often overlooked in the industry. We will continue to ensure that our customers are well-informed about alternatives from other manufacturers where our offerings fall short. Additionally, we will continue to innovate, enhancing both the customer experience and our operational efficiency, as exemplified by the recent introduction of the Evolve frame. Although we’ve overcome many challenges from our early days, it still feels like day one as new challenges continue to emerge. My goal in this budget process has always been to make sure we’re funding core, basic services in a balanced and disciplined manner. We know there is an inherent tension between asking people to pay rates, fees and taxes— and the issue of affordability. We want to make sure our city can provide the quality-of-life services that our residents deserve, but we also want to make sure we’re putting affordability first in our community. While I worry a lot about affordability, I also worry about the ability of our city to deliver quality services without more revenue. I strongly believe that if we're not making the kinds of investments we need to make in our people and our services, we will be managing decay in Austin in a very short period of time. This budget will not meet everyone’s concept of perfection. Truthfully, there are parts of the budget that I don’t like. That goes with living in a big, diverse city—different people will have different priorities, and we need to make room for all of us. Now, it is time for us to trust our voters. Voters have an opportunity in November to make a very important decision. From my perspective, the best part of this budget is that we fully fund our homeless strategy office. That was my greatest emphasis, and we've achieved it. It will make a world of difference in getting homeless people off the street in a very short period of time. I'm also very pleased with what we’ve added to funding for public safety, EMS, and wildfire prevention. A positive vote in the November tax rate election will allow us to pay for these needed services. And we make a significant investment in our parks. I look forward to a result that will be the best benefit of our community.

We want to make sure our city can provide the quality-of-life services that our residents deserve, but we also want to make sure we’re putting affordability first in our community. While I worry a lot about affordability, I also worry about the ability of our city to deliver quality services without more revenue. I strongly believe that if we're not making the kinds of investments we need to make in our people and our services, we will be managing decay in Austin in a very short period of time. This budget will not meet everyone’s concept of perfection. Truthfully, there are parts of the budget that I don’t like. That goes with living in a big, diverse city—different people will have different priorities, and we need to make room for all of us. Now, it is time for us to trust our voters. Voters have an opportunity in November to make a very important decision. From my perspective, the best part of this budget is that we fully fund our homeless strategy office. That was my greatest emphasis, and we've achieved it. It will make a world of difference in getting homeless people off the street in a very short period of time. I'm also very pleased with what we’ve added to funding for public safety, EMS, and wildfire prevention. A positive vote in the November tax rate election will allow us to pay for these needed services. And we make a significant investment in our parks. I look forward to a result that will be the best benefit of our community.

A new office isn't a right. It's a privilege, and one we must earn every day. Today is our first day in Meow's new HQ in the heart of Soho. The internet isn't even up yet, so I'm typing this tethered to my phone. I'm proud of the early Meow team that graduated from dark rooms to a space of our own. We could have done this years ago but we waited until we crossed 8 figures in net revenue and until we knew our growth engine actually repeats. The entire team, since day 1, has never complained and has been on board with this ethos. Above all, we're grateful for our customers. None of this is possible without the customer. And we must earn the right to serve our customers every single day.
