My uncle tried something similar years ago. The elevator caught his backpack and dragged him a bit before stopping. Since then, I’ve never tried to beat closing elevator doors

I was talking to the production manager at work one day and the robot cell started doing something stupid. The control panel was a good 25 feet away and would have taken too long to get to, so I took off my hat and threw it through the light curtain and the entire cell stopped.
