In Dutch the word for black is Zwart and in German it's Schwarz. I wonder why in English it was changed to black at some point.

Sometimes I rather have someone explain it to me from a personal perspective instead of jumping to the first search engine or AI result. I'm starting to dislike clankers.

It occurs to me that "sweart" is probably the word origin for "swarthy."

i'm simultaneously impressed and dumbfounded, with no way of knowing if anything he's saying is true , or how I would even begin to go about fact-checking it. i'll just take his word for it.

"Swarthy" then comes from the Saxon for "black". Never thought about that.

In Swedish, "svart" is black, and "black" is when you are broke.

In Swedish "black" is the pale wild horse color, like the color of a Fjord horse.

How the hell do we know what it sounded like in 5000BC? I can sort of buy that we can know what English sounded like in the 1500s since Shakespeare's plays have been passed down from Generation to Generation, but don't buy that we have any clue what it sounded like before that.

The older word, "Sweart" for "black." Why in older literature, even up to the 1800's, you see the word, "swarthy" for dark complexions - not just African. Just, darker hair and skin, like Lincoln.

Yet strangely, the Welsh language, even older than English, has remained virtually the same.

5000 BCE (7000 years ago) becomes a bit speculative, I think. That's almost 2000 years before the Yamnaya.
