Jack Nicholson found the script for The Departed (2006) lacking. He only joined after Scorsese let him rewrite scenes to make Frank Costello sexually deviant. He even improvised throwing cocaine on actresses to ensure the character was unpredictable.

And he totally crushed it, utterly crazy

But if you keep the camera rolling….

There’ll never be another actor like Jack.

Throwing the cocaine was the worst scene in the movie

'Let him...' Nah, apparently Nicholson was a nightmare for the whole production. It was to placate him to get the film done. There's a reason Scorcese hasn't worked with Jack since...

“I’ll do it but only if I can drop the hard R in first 30 seconds”

Well you can’t have evil incarnate without a dash of sexual deviancy that’s for sure

Sorry, but this movie is no good. It’s dull.

Jack doesn't play a good gangster like DeNiro or Pacino

Scorsese: are you interested in appearing in an Oscar nominated movie? Jack: no I don’t think so.. Scorsese: you get to sleep around and treat woman like shit in it.. Jack: You son of a bitch I’m in..

He has some great scenes in the film but he overacts pretty consistently throughout. Probably the weakest/most uneven main cast member

He was the worst thing about an otherwise decent film.

The most overrated Scorcese movie.

Legit one of the scariest characters I’ve ever seen on screen. And Leo was so good in this scene - you can absolutely feel his fear.

it was dog shit as released I can only imagine how bad the script originally was

I think having the villian enjoy his takeout before losing appetite and scatter all the food much more interesting

God this movie sucks so bad

@grok is the above true?

@Paigeo145963 absolute classic movie

source?

Well he ruined that

I saw this movie many times and only now did I realize he ate the dead fly 😂

The theater scene makes more sense now

Jack Nicholson is the man!

Strange, because the throwing cocaine scene was idiotic. I don't buy ANY PERSON ever doing that. Too over the top, as was most of the movie.

Terrible movie

Jack Nicholson is certainly a superior part of the remake (Infernal Affairs) Incredible villain.

"He is sure because he himself is the FBI's Rat"

I love the word deviant

Now this was Oscar worthy.

Actors really are fuckin clowns.

What a shit terrible movie…such bad acting and terrible plot…not realistic at all…
