How much the studio’s behind it, which other movies the studio’s releasing at the same time—I think Disney had nine or ten in release at the same time—how much energy is put into it. Who knows. It’s always been a mystery to me. 'Jacob’s Ladder' (1990) came out at a time when it was just not right for that movie to be seen. We were about to go into the Gulf War, and the country did not want to see a movie about a Vietnam veteran involved in drug experiments when, as the movie’s playing in theaters, we are inoculating Gulf War soldiers with anthrax. I got a letter from one guy that resisted—he got put in a brig because he would not take the drugs. He said, “Thank you, because I saw Jacob’s Ladder before I left, and it gave me the strength to resist.” And now they’ve found out that a lot of these soldiers got sick from these vaccines, with this Gulf War Syndrome. That movie found its audience in video and cable, and it was huge. Today’s #HudsonWilliamsFF short film is “Peace of Mind”! 🎥 Link to watch: IMO: I love this one. It builds tension so well and Hudson is always so captivating to watch. The plot twist at the end?! 😭 Those final scenes are so vulnerable and I really love the switch from color to black and white. One of my favourite quotes: “Peace of mind was never about achieving your dreams or fixing your past, it’s about forgiving the ones that never happen and letting go of what you can’t change.” Share your favourite scene and your insights about it in the replies!

Philip Seymour Hoffman is only in Almost Famous for a handful of minutes, but he still delivered a scene that always- always- makes me emotional. I’m not sure if it’s because this film pulls me back to my childhood or if it’s because PSH is no longer with us. Probably a combination. This is just such a beautiful moment. Cameron Crowe thank you for this film & all that you do.

There is one particular shot towards the end of the film with Kathleen Byron, which, in my head, that is probably minutes of film, when in reality the shot is only on screen for less than two seconds And it's a shot of Kathleen Byron coming through a doorway, and it's part of an incredible climax, which I won't spoil if you've never seen the film. But it's one of those shots in Cinema that is ingrained on my brain. Like a lot of Powell and Pressburger films, I think it's just [has] a picturesque quality to it which is just somehow difficult to pinpoint exactly what the magic of Powell and Pressburger together is. But I think the thing is sometime these are the films that you keep returning to, is you can't kind of define exactly what it is about the film that keeps you obsessed, you just keep coming back. You even said to ensure health, the environment must be clean. 7 years Later, you have failed at your job. It is very disingenuous to start scaling up waste evacuation less than a year to the end of your tenure. Something you didn’t do in 7 years. I think at this point, you’re taking Lagos residents for a ride and it is very disrespectful.

Inglourious Basterds released 15 years ago this exact day. I’m very excited to see a showing of this tonight at the Vista Theater Hollywood. Quentin Tarantino called this film his “best script”. It’s hard to argue against that statement. This film is basically perfect. A flawless movie.
