He is the co-writer of "It Was Just An Accident," along with acclaimed Iranian dissident director Jafar Panahi, who first met Mahmoudian when they were both imprisoned in 2022. We spoke to Panahi just after Mahmoudian's arrest. He recounts, "When I first entered prison, he came and introduced himself and talked to me, and he was very kind to me. And then I saw that any prisoner, every prisoner who enters, Mehdi does the same thing."
