What the vice president said last year was very clear: Europe had made a series of internal decisions that were threatening to the alliance and ultimately to itself. Not because we hate Europe or don’t like Europeans, but because what is it that we fight for? What binds us together? Ultimately, it’s that we are heirs to the same civilization, a great civilization.
